Heath Ledger :(

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I’m really not one for celebrity gossip and all that jazz, but I really had to say something about Heath Ledger’s death. He died earlier today, in case any of you hadn’t heard. He was only 28.

I really liked him as an actor… I thought he was pretty cool (well, aside from the Brokeback thing, but hey, nobody’s perfect) and I absolutely loved him in 10 Things I Hate About You. I’m sorry this happened to him… though for somebody who really couldn’t give a rip about what celebrities do from day to day, I’m ridiculously disappointed.

Gosh… could you imagine the mess I’d be in if it had been Justin Bartha?

PS: While I’d like to say that Andrew wins the prize for the longest comment ever, Shawna’s still got him beat. No, this is not a challenge. I’m just saying.

Turning Books into Movies

Monday, January 21st, 2008

It amazes me how many movies will have a small note somewhere in the credits, “based on the novel by…” It seems that a very good percentage of the best movies started out as books. I can think of a few off the top of my head: Lord of the Rings, the Notebook, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Pride and Prejudice, and that epic series about that boy wizard (we all know who I mean).

It also amazes me how many people whine and complain when the movie differs from the book in any way, shape, or form. Yeah, the book is going to be better. It’s the original… worded exactly how it was supposed to be. Or maybe you imagined this character or that to look completely different. I guess that’s sometimes the case, especially with classics and best-sellers.

There’s been a lot of movies, though, that are based off of books I’d never heard about, and caused me to later look for the book and read it… and it seems like those lesser-known books are made into movies that people don’t tend to complain as much about.

Do you think the book is usually better? Is there any book-turned-movie in which the movie was way better than the book? Worse?

Been a While

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Sorry, guys. It’s been almost a month and most of you haven’t heard from me at all in that time. Life picks up, I suspect! Anyhow, since this is my first post of 2008… happy new year (again) everyone!

I hate these rushed updates, but I did want to let you all know about one thing that’s happened these last couple of weeks: I got a promotion at work! I got a raise, and now I’m “management in training”… which means that when I turn 21 next month, I’ll officially be a manager. Until then, I’m being treated as a manager and having to learn everything I can. This past week I’ve been really worn out by the time I get home. It’s like being trained all over again. I’m actually being trained for a higher-level job, just in case something happens down the line, I don’t have to be re-trained again.

Needless to say, I’m quite happy with this. Once I get in the swing of things, it’ll be great.
