About This Entry

Israel

My friend James and his dad are hosting a tour to Israel in Spring 2009, and they invited me. My first reaction was “Oh, yay! I’ve always wanted to go to Israel, ever since I was old enough to realize it was a real place!”

And honestly, for just over a week in Israel, the price isn’t all that bad either. If I save a certain amount each week between now and then, it won’t be too overwhelming. Just get that registration in pretty quick and you won’t have to pay quite as much.

Honestly, though, the more I think about it, the scarier it gets. Not the actual going part, but the “committing to paying this huge amount” part. I’m afraid of committing and then having to pull out at the last moment. It’s happened to me before. The first time I tried to enroll in college, I went ahead and signed up for housing, because at that time, I was going to have my trust fund money by the time school started. Well, things with my grandfather fell through and I had to pull out… but because I had signed up for housing, I ended up owing the university no small bit of money.

Which they still hound me about.

I’m just afraid of that happening again… committing to this Israel thing and then having to pull out at the last moment because of things completely out of my power. I can’t afford to lose anything like that.

I don’t know. I guess I’ll have to think about it some more.

Can’t you just save the money each week for the time being, but not pay until a month before the trip to reduce the chance of having to drop out? Or is there a deadline to commit to the trip?

@Amanda- There’s definitely deadlines, plus this friend of mine is a very persistent guy.

See how you go with saving up until the deadline, and if you think you will be able to continue saving enough money, you can then commit to the trip. Hope that makes sense, lol. Saving up is pretty easy if you really set your mind to it.

I am SO jealous. My dad refuses to travel outside of the US except for Canada.

God will provide ;)

Pray about it.

It sucks to not know what might possibly happen. Good luck deciding; I hope you’re able to go! It seems like it would be a fun trip.

If it’s something you really want to do, then I’d suggest going for it. If you think you may not be able to save the money.. or if you have a hard time with saving, then set up a savings account at a bank.. or talk to your parents about setting one up? You’ll be glad you did in the long run I bet!

Hey girl!
Is this a missions trip? Are you guys going to be doing any fundraising or is this a kind of on your on type of trip? I’ll be sure to keep you in my prayers while you are making up your mind!

Hi Melanie! Be encouraged… Yah gives us these challenges to show how strong He is. I will support you in prayer for Him to work everything out. Recently I went through the same thing, planning a month-long trip to Australia. Currently I am sitting in Melbourne as I am typing this. God is so good. Finances were looking slim, and I came with less than I had intended to live off of for the month, but again, God new what I needed, and provided for needs and extra. My friend (Abby Smith) and I leave for home this coming Thursday.

Hope you are doing well!

Yeah… I try my best to not to spend money I don’t have. No credit card for me!
Israel… I’d be scared to go to a place like that. Especially if I didn’t speak the language.
I hope everything pulls through! And if you have doubts… Just remember Israel will be there later, lol.
