Not Ready for that Decision Yet

We’re getting a new district manager at work. I didn’t really have anything against the one we had already, but everyone who’s been there a while is really relieved. I don’t think it’ll make a huge difference in my day-to-day life.

My boss, however, is planning on asking the new DM if it’s possible to lift the “you can’t be in management until you’re 21″ rule. She had already asked the old DM, but got a no on that one, so she’s going to try again. I mean, I’ve got until February before I’m 21, but now I’m thinking that I would like that extra bit of time to figure out if I want the job or not.

First thoughts: yes! I am already doing most of the jobs that the shift manager would be doing (because we haven’t had one for ages), and I could definitely live with a three dollar raise. Absolutely!!

However, the schedule is going to be my problem. I’d only have to work a few more hours than I am now, which is not a problem, but I’d have to open every morning (which means the alarm goes off at four a.m.) and I’d be on a rotating schedule (which means I’d only get one out of three sabbaths off).

I think that management would be a great opportunity. I mean, they’ve been trying to put me in that position for almost a year now, so I know I can do the job. Opening every morning puts my sister in a bad place (because so many of our chores have to be done at night, and I’d have to go to bed extra early), and… well, not having a congregation and not doing too awful much in that respect, Sabbath is pretty special, and I don’t want to miss out on it every week.

Besides. Sabbath is a commandment. But the extra money is a huge step towards independence.

I’m not ready to make this decision yet, so I hope the new DM says “not until she’s 21.”

Hey what happened to the old bg?! :( And I don’t understand why your boss keeps asking the old Draco Malfoy?! O_o

On a serious note, my stance will always be “never change your beliefs and morals for an external physical object, problem, or person… no matter what.” I guess it just depends on how much the Sabbath means to you (I know it’s taking really seriously by most Jews). Maybe your asst. manager can work Saturdays though?

Hopefully you’ll get more time to make that decision. I guess you need to put one thing before the other. Good luck; I hope everything works out in the end!

Personally, I’m offended. We’re such good friends and I was not mentioned in any of the blogs I just went through… haha. j/k. Anyway Willy Wonka, I must go for now. I’m gonna look through my blogs to see if my name pops up anywhere (which it BETTER) haha.
