That’s right. I’ve got a “real life” project this week: my bedroom.
No, I’m serious. I have no idea how it happened… my room usually stayed mostly neat. Maybe not the most exciting of rooms, but not a total mess. Over the last couple of months or so, it’s been getting steadily worse and worse… messy and cluttered and unorganized, as well as thoroughly uninteresting.
Let me turn around and make a quick survey of my room. Oh goodness, I don’t know if I want to do that again. I’ll try and describe it to you because I’m not going to embarrass myself with photos.
The bookshelf is okay. The books are all out of order and some of them aren’t even mine, but it’s okay. You can’t see the bottom shelf, though, because there’s some laundry there that never got put away. The same laundry, by the way, is blocking me from opening the closet. This is probably a good thing… my closet seems to be the catch-all junk-drawer area of my room.
The inside of the dresser is fine. A little unorganized, but fine. The top? A complete mismash of junk and things I use every day. There’s a little set of drawers on top that’s supposed to hold things like hair ties. What’s in it? Not much. The suitcase I took to Texas is still sitting on the floor in front of my dresser as well. I think it’s supposed to live in the closet… which, like I said, I can’t get to.
My desk. Oh my gosh, my desk is a joke. The only clear area on my desk is exactly where I need to rest my arms to use my computer. Once again, there’s drawers full of… nothing useful. I’ve got eight drawers actually in my desk that seem to have ended up as junk drawers after all these years. Got to get them cleaned out.
There’s a pile of miscellaneous stuff behind me that needs to be sorted through, because it’s kind of blocking my bed. My big suitcase and my guitar are sitting up against my wall, next to my bedside table (sadly, a set of plastic drawers), which has got so much junk on top that I can’t hardly see my alarm clock anymore. The bed is pretty much made, as made as my bed ever gets.
Seriously. This room needs help.
Also, some of you know that I painted my walls orange. No, not bright, loud, obnoxious orange… it’s more of a warm cinnamon/pumpkin pie orange. I really liked it at the time. Now a year later, I’m wishing I had gone with blue or green or at least something neutral.
So! This week’s project is going to be cleaning the room. Cleaning, decluttering, organizing. My hours aren’t too crazy this week, so I should manage it, as long as I keep my mind to it.
Next week or next month’s project (depending on a lot of things) is going to be making my room unique. Interesting. I’m not sure how I’m going to do that yet, at all. I might get a couple of new things, just to make life more interesting. I’ll keep you all posted.

Wow, that sounds like my room. Good luck with getting everything in order! I know how much of a hassle it can be.

That sounds like my room as well. It’s never cleaned. And if I clean it, it goes back to normal in a few minutes. I wish you luck!!

Seems like you’re going to have a hard time cleaning up.
Good luck!

I’ve been there before. It’s amazing how easily a room can go to hell. Right now though, my room’s pretty clean, mostly because there’s not much that can mess it up. And if I leave anything on the floor, my dog will chew it up.
As long as you stick to it, it shouldn’t be that bad. My problem was always getting motivated in the first place, but once I started, it was no problem.
